Isaiah and Simeon

Last night, after reading through passages in Isaiah and then Luke 1 & 2 with our small group, I was struck with these two men - Isaiah and Simeon. They stand out to me almost as bookends of the Advent story.

One a prophet
One a devout men
Both looking.

One tells of the Messiah's coming
One reads those prophecies
Both groan to see the fulfillment.

One lived under numerous rulers
One lived in the empire of Caesar
Both awaited a new King.

One spoke the words God gave him
One heard the words God gave him
Both lived with silence.

One told a nation
One blessed a mother
Both longed for Shalom

One is a large presence in the Scriptures
One is a small supporting actor
Both followed the Spirit in his role.

One spoke of the Temple's destruction
One entered the Temple to seek
Both waited expectantly.

One died without clarity
One died having seen
Both died wrapped in hope.

One made God present to Israel
One, living in Israel, had God presented to him
Both cried to see HIS day!

Tara and David

After reading this post, I was struck by these two people. They stand out to me as bookends of God's working in this world.

One a wonder
One a shmuck
Both living in the same marriage.

One tells of Messiah's work and life
One tells of someone else's conclusions about Messiahs work and life in some other time or by 5th-hand knowledge
Both groan to see the second one get a clue.

One lives under a boneheaded ruler
One IS the boneheaded ruler
Both await a new King (only one will know when He comes, though!).

One speaks of words that come from God
One hears her speak those words
Both live in silence (hmm, takes some thinkin' to get that one!).

One gets it
One doesn't
---
One thinks the other has something to offer
One KNOWS the other has a TON to offer
Both long for fullness, both cry (but for very different reasons).

Guess which one is Tara!!
